Google I/O 2026 showed that artificial intelligence has fully shifted from being an add-on feature to becoming the foundation of the entire Google ecosystem. Instead of building separate tools, the company is developing a unified AI infrastructure that spans models, custom chips, services, and devices. At the center of this system are Gemini and new agent-based technologies capable of completing tasks on behalf of users with minimal input.

Among the key announcements were Gemini Omni and Gemini 3.5 Flash, which improve speed and performance across different types of data, as well as Gemini Spark — a personal AI agent that can manage tasks, plan actions, and interact with dozens of applications. Tools like Docs Live and Notebook LM were also upgraded, turning voice notes and scattered information into structured documents and knowledge. Meanwhile, Ask Maps and Ask YouTube introduce a more contextual and action-oriented form of search.

Another major highlight was Universal Cart, a system that consolidates purchases across multiple stores and tracks prices automatically. Google also introduced new tools for building websites and creating music through simple commands. At the same time, the company is expanding Android XR, which points toward smart glasses and deeper integration of digital assistants into everyday life.

A significant part of the presentation focused on infrastructure. Google is heavily investing in its custom TPU chips and scaling computational power to support billions of users and increasingly complex AI models in real time.

The main consequence of these developments is the gradual reduction in the need for standalone applications. Many functions that previously required separate services are now being absorbed directly into the Google ecosystem, including AI search tools, website builders, basic coding assistants, transcription services, and other popular digital products.

Overall, the trend points toward a new way of interacting with technology, where users no longer execute each step manually but simply express intent, and the system carries out the process across multiple services. As a result, Google is building a unified intelligent environment that gradually replaces individual applications and reshapes the way digital tools are used.
